If you want to make a contribution to climate protection, you build with wood today. If we want to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, it makes sense to do without steel and concrete and rely on timber construction instead - even for basements. In an apartment building in Thun, a total of 222 tons of CO₂ are stored in the wood used - 126 tons of which are in the basement.
Basements made of wood are not only good for the environment. They are also built much faster. For the project in Thun, 98 days were enough to construct the timber basement clean and dry and cover it with the floor slab. The erection work only took five days! The construction of a comparable basement in solid construction would have taken around 184 days. A timber basement can also compete with a concrete basement in terms of price.
In the future Timbase AG will plan, manufacture, supply and install timber basements as a total contractor and will guarantee quality assurance and warranty. Timbase AG is part of the Timbagroup.
Andreas Burgherr talks about basement floors in timber construction in Sven Bill's timber construction podcast.
