In Bern Bümpliz, the parish of Bern built a new apartment building entirely of wood - including staircase and elevator shaft. The first tenants move into their apartments.
The apartment building planned by Büro 21 Architekten is made entirely of wood. Even in the stairwell and the elevator shaft, the planners consistently dispensed with the use of concrete.
This is made possible by the encapsulated structures made of cross-laminated timber. The walls and ceilings are also all made of cross-laminated timber and the staircase is a solid oak construction.
Exposedwood surfaces
Timbatec meticulously designed all of the wood components. Planners defined each treatment of the wood panels before work began on the site. The panel makers milled the slots and holes for power cables, lamps and sockets at the factory. The cables for the installations are routed in the dry-bonded chippings.
Subsequent slitting of the panels for the installation of electrical cables is thus neither permissible nor necessary. This is the only way to ensure that the visible wooden surfaces on the walls and ceilings look good even after the construction phase .
Timbatec was responsible for all timber construction engineering services. Together with Büro 21 Architekten and the client, we are pleased with the successful timber construction.
