The project
The initial situation In order to obtain more (school) space, the International School Zurich in Wädenswil decided to extend its school building by an additional floor. For weight reasons, the exterior walls as well as the roof were realized in wood element construction. The load-bearing interior walls are made of sand-lime brick.
The construction
A special feature of this building was the fact that weight could only be transferred to the solid exterior walls at very specific points.
The challenge
Due to the high spans of the roof and the window arrangement with corner windows, an intercepting construction was required in the roof edge area, which was implemented with Kerto girders. The large skylights, which were a further challenge to the load-bearing concept, are striking.
