Hofwis residential development, Elsau

The project
A «new village center» was built in Elsau by the Elsau Foundation. It comprises 2 apartment buildings, 9 terraced single-family houses, 1 health center and a library with a multi-purpose room. The pergola, pitched roofs and wooden facades have been successfully integrated into the rural surroundings.

The construction method
The existing converted farmhouse now houses the multi-purpose room and the library. The health center is a timber skeleton construction with an exposed beam ceiling, the staircase is made of concrete. The apartment buildings are purely timber constructions and are accessed via an arcade. The timber element construction consists of solid timber ceilings. The terraced single-family houses are also timber element constructions with exposed beam ceilings.
