The project
By moving the restaurant from the first floor to the second floor extension, both the retail space and the restaurant area could be expanded.
Timbatec's task was to calculate the structural analysis for the wooden structure on the second floor. The creation of the 3D/2D work planning was also part of the service. The extension was built on top of the existing roof, so the existing column grid on the lower floor had to be taken into account for load transfer. The primary structure was chosen as a truss construction on steel columns.
The construction method
With the desire to achieve the slimmest possible roof structure, the roof was designed as a ribbed structure. The client wanted a long window front in the northeast facade. To meet this wish, this area of the exterior wall had to be designed as a box girder. Furthermore, the details had to be designed in such a way that the main load-bearing structure could move freely from the outer wall.
For the remaining walls, the efficient and flexible timber frame construction method was chosen.
The challenge
In order to meet the tight schedule, a high degree of prefabrication was aimed for in the planning, which demanded disciplined work from all those involved in the project.
